While many North Texas restaurants shut down Thursday because of the storm, some stayed open. But it wasn't exactly business as usual. The advice is to stay off the roads. But some workers headed to their jobs so other people had a hot meal to eat.

Much of the anxiety about this winter storm went away for many North Texans Thursday morning, especially for children taking advantage of the snow day.

Gov. Greg Abbott said he is confident the Texas power grid will be able to keep up with the demand during the winter storm.

An arctic front brought a Winter Storm Warning and plenty of sleet and ice to North Texas. FOX 4 Meteorologist Evan Andrews said some of it turned to snow that will stick around through Saturday morning.

A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for Dallas-Fort Worth. Residents woke up Thursday morning to temperatures in the 20s with ice on trees and power lines, causing power outages in some areas.

There will be no Southwest Airlines flights into and out of Dallas Love Field today. DFW Airport also shut down because of ice on the runway.

Oncor says the greatest concern overnight into Thursday is ice on trees and power lines. How long we stick with freezing rain and how quickly it transitions to sleet and snow will make a huge difference in whether people lose power.

While many North Texans are staying safe at home, first responders are preparing to work through the winter storm ad spent the week preparing their vehicles for icy conditions.
