Democrat and union leader Taylor Rehmet won a historic victory Saturday, flipping a long-held Republican Texas Senate seat.

Dallas police arrested a suspect in a stolen vehicle whose apprehension led to the discovery of evidence tied to a federal mail theft investigation.

With ballots tallied from all but a handful of voting centers, Rehmet had 57% of the vote, besting the 43% for his GOP opponent, Leigh Wambsganss, who had a massive spending advantage.

Investigators believe a bullet fired from outside the home struck the victim, possibly linked to a "shots fired" call an hour earlier.
