Terrell police arrest suspect for weekend murders
TERRELL, Texas - Police in Terrell are crediting TV viewers for the quick arrest of a double murder suspect.
Jerimichael Maxie, 29, was taken into custody Monday after he checked into Dallas Presbyterian Hospital for a medical issue. Workers at the hospital recognized him as the man wanted for a weekend crime spree.
It started with a shooting around 5:50 p.m. Saturday in the 300 block of West Cottage Street. Police said 37-year-old Kenneth White Jr. was pronounced dead at the scene. Then 25-year-old Markiest Lucky was shot and killed around 6 p.m. in the 700 block of Frazier Street.
About ten minutes later, police got a call from a woman who said a man with a gun tried to force her into her SUV. She ran away and he stole the vehicle and her cellphone.
Police said the woman’s description of the gunman matched Maxie’s description but he is considered a person of interest in that case. He has not yet been officially linked to or charged for the aggravated robbery and attempted kidnapping.
Maxie is facing charges for the murders. Police said he has close ties to both victims and is known to authorities.
He also has an extensive criminal history that includes several assault, aggravated assault, criminal mischief and DWI arrests.
