Suspected gun thieves arrested after Grand Prairie standoff

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas - Police believe a group of teens stole a number of guns from a Dallas home that were recovered at a home in Grand Prairie after a standoff.

The Friday standoff lasted just under an hour. With the combined work of two police agencies, three men were taken into custody in connection with a burglary that got plenty of attention on social media.

The Grand Prairie standoff evacuated neighbors as a precaution and saw SWAT officers swarm the home on Cleta court. It was all in an effort to catch the burglars who were caught on camera as they ransacked a Dallas home on Thursday and stole a stash of high-powered guns.

"When we arrived, there was a subject observed coming out of the back. Matched one of the descriptions of the suspects in the burglary last night,” said Officer Lyle Gensler. “He ran back inside the house. The standoff started there, we tried to get them out of the house."

After a 45 minute standoff, police say three men surrendered.

John Henne heard about the standoff and said he had to come. He says the homeowner whose guns were stolen is his brother and is certain the video of the burglary his family circulated on social media was the key that led police to the suspects.

"He's got a very good surveillance of it. You can see him knocking on the door. When they break into the room, they're all just looking right into the camera,” said Henne. “We blew up Facebook. My nephew did it. We did it. All of our friends. And in less than 12 hours, you see where we're at."

Dallas police for a time kept the home off-limits to others who live in the area but eventually cleared the scene and allowed them to go back inside. It’s not yet clear if any of the guns have been recovered.
