FORT WORTH, Texas - An Oncor electrical substation caught on fire Wednesday in Far North Fort Worth.
Fort Worth Oncor Substation Fire
What we know:
The electrical substation near the corner of Seventeen Lakes Blvd. and Henrietta Creed Road caught on fire Wednesday evening just after 7 p.m. It’s located east of Alliance Airport.
Oncor cut power to the substation so fire crews could work on getting it under control.
Oncor says it has rerouted power so a majority of customers in the area still have power. The 40 customers who initially lost power have had their electricity restored.
Nearby homes were alerted about the fire but were not forced to evacuate.
Investigators say the substation holds about 30,000 gallons of oil. It's unclear how much of it has already burned off.
Hazmat crews have been monitoring the area as a precaution, but nothing alarming has been found.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, but firefighters say there is no indication that it was intentionally set.
Fire crews from nearby Saginaw and Roanoke are assisting on the scene.
What we don't know:
It’s unclear what caused the electrical substation to catch on fire or if it was weather-related.
The Fort Worth Fire Department says it's currently in a holding pattern. It's deciding between trying to put the fire out or letting the 30,000 gallons of oil burn itself out.
There's no estimate on when the fire will be extinguished.
