Mesquite middle school placed on lockdown after report of shots fired nearby

A Mesquite middle school was placed into lockdown after reports of shots fired near the campus on Friday afternoon.

Terry Middle School was put into lockdown just after 3 p.m. on Friday. There were no reports of injuries and it was later determined the sound of shots was an unidentifiable loud noise.

Police searced every student as they were being evacuated as a precaution, with evacuated students then bussed to the Mesquite Rodeo.

Footage from SKY4 showed a heavy police presence at and around the campus when the lockdown was active. A large crowd of parents also gathered outside the main entrance and were behind kept back by authorities.

"With everything that's been going on around the country it can be scary," said parent Robert Latshaw you never think it's going to happen at your kids school

Police were also seen searching the grounds behind the campus. As of Friday evening they still had not determined what the noise was that people heard.
