Loaded handgun found at Dallas elementary school
Police found a loaded handgun outside a Dallas elementary school on Wednesday.
Dallas ISD police said a group of 9-year-olds went into a restroom at William B. Miller Elementary on Wednesday and one of those students told a teacher that one of the boys in the group had a gun. During that time the student opened a window and threw the gun out of the window, where it was found by the teacher.
Dallas ISD police said they couldn’t charge anyone with a crime because no one was in possession of the firearm when they arrived on the scene.
The principal of Miller Elementary wrote in a letter sent home to parents that “if you have firearms in your home, I urge you to make sure they are kept locked away in a safe location out of your children’s reach.”
The principal also urged parents to talk to their children about gun safety.
