Hometown Hero: Alex Tedeschi
When Alex Tedeschi was 8 years old, she joined the Girl Scouts of America. She loved being a Brownie and through her years of girl scouting, she's learned what leadership means.
Alex has earned the Girl Scout Bronze and Silver Awards. In May, she'll earn the elite Girl Scout Gold Award, an accolade less than 6 percent of Girl Scouts achieve.
The 16-year-old is on the Teen Board at the Genesis Women's Shelter, where 100 women and children live to escape domestic violence. To make their stay easier and enjoyable, Alex created a library of more than 700 books, magazines and games. She organized it with an app, and she and her dad even built the bookshelves.
If you'd like to add to Alex's library by donating gently read books for women and children, you can drop them off at 4411 Lemon Ave. in Dallas, Suite 201 or call 214.389.7700.
If you're in a domestic violence situation call 214.946.HELP or the Genesis Women's Shelter.
