Dallas weather: Winter storm watch issued, freezing temps continue and snow likely Thursday
NORTH TEXAS - A winter storm watch has been issued for the Dallas-Fort Worth area as freezing temperatures continue, and significant snow accumulation is expected later this week.
Today's forecast:
Temperatures today will be similar to yesterday but with much less wind. Highs will reach the upper 30s to near 40 degrees, while morning lows dip into the low 20s. Skies will remain mostly cloudy.
Be sure to drip your faucets to protect your home from freezing pipes.
Tomorrow's forecast:
Expect another cloudy day tomorrow as the winter storm begins to develop over northern Mexico. Conditions will remain dry, with lows in the 20s and highs in the upper 30s.
How much snow will Dallas get?
Widespread snow accumulations will cause significant travel disruptions along the I-20 corridor, including DFW.
As of Tuesday evening, areas south of DFW will likely see 1 to 3 inches of snow. Parts of the Metroplex to the northwest could get 4 to 6 inches.
Much of the DFW area will see 2 to 4 inches.
These estimates may change as we approach Thursday.
Counties to the south and east will likely see more rain than snow, which could lead to lower snow accumulation in those areas.
When will it snow in Dallas?
The wintry mix of snow, rain, and sleet is expected to arrive in DFW on Thursday and move out by early Friday morning. The winter storm watch is in effect through Friday. The heaviest snowfall is anticipated Thursday night.
Friday morning is likely to pose greater challenges than Thursday, as untreated roads will refreeze overnight despite temperatures climbing above freezing Friday afternoon. Use caution if traveling on Friday and Saturday.
