Gunshot victim gets help at Lake Highlands store
A man who showed up at a Lake Highlands gas station with a gunshot wound was taken to the hospital early Thursday morning.
Police said two men arrived at the One Stop store on New Church Road just after 1 a.m. One man had been shot in the lower leg or foot.
Originally the men claimed someone fired shots at them at a nearby park. But witnesses said their story changed a few times.
The victim eventually told police he shot himself by accident and made up the story about a shooting at the park because he didn’t want to get in trouble.
Garland police are still investigating.
