Funeral home van carrying two bodies stranded in North Texas floodwaters

A funeral home van carrying two bodies became stranded in high waters overnight after storms caused widespread flooding across North Texas.

What we know:

Dallas Fire-Rescue responded around 3:30 a.m. Thursday to reports of a minivan stuck in high water near White Rock Lake, at Goforth Drive and Eagle Trail.

The caller told officials the vehicle became disabled after driving into the floodwaters overnight.

When emergency crews arrived, they found water up to the van’s windows. First responders safely removed the driver and a passenger, but the two bodies inside remained.

As the water receded, crews were able to walk to the van, attach a tow cable, and pull it to dry land. The bodies were then transferred to another vehicle.

Dallas Fire-Rescue cleared the scene around 5:30 a.m.

No additional details about the incident have been released.

Several flood warnings were issued as rainfall totals reached 5 inches in some areas. Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport recorded 2.8 inches of rain, setting a new daily record for Jan. 29.

The excessive rainfall caused high water in several locations, including White Rock Lake.

What we don't know:

The identities of the deceased have not been released.

It is unclear where the bodies were being transported.
