Former Euless coach accused of impregnating teen
A former North Texas teacher is accused of impregnating a 15-year-old girl and attempting to give a fake name to her parents.
26-year-old Cornelius Smith was speech teacher and coach at Euless Jr. High School. He resigned when the school confronted him about the allegations.
According to an arrest warrant affidavit: Smith friended the teenage girl, on Facebook at the end of last year. Police say the relationship progressed to messages back-and-forth on the messaging app KIK. By February, the relationship had turned sexual.
The encounters reportedly ranged from oral sex to intercourse in Smith’s SUV. According to the affidavit "During Spring Break in March of 2016, Smith came over to her residence to have sexual intercourse on more than one occasion."
Fox 4 tried to reach Smith at his Fort Worth home but there was no answer. The house appeared vacant, and there was a “for sale” sign in the front yard.
The affidavit states, "The victim wanted it to be known that she did agree to have sex with the suspect. However it was Smith who reached out to her."
In June, Smith took the girl to a pregnancy center where they learned she was pregnant. According to the affidavit, "He told her after they found out she was pregnant, that he would help her if she was going to have the child or have an abortion. He also advised her that he would have to take his wife and children to East Texas first, before he could care for her and their child."
Smith was arrested on June 22nd. Fox 4 reached out to the district to ask why it took them one month to notify parents about this, but received no response.
