Dallas police arrest man linked to sex assaults
DALLAS - Dallas police arrested a man linked to two sexual assaults after relatives contacted FOX 4.
Officers used information from the tip to find 27-year-old Samuel Jamall White Tuesday morning at the Mandalay Palms Apartments on Chesterfield Drive.
Police believe they have the man they've been looking for, but White's mom and sister disputed what happened.
On Monday, police released surveillance video from two separate locations in Dallas. They said tips helped them identify the man in the video as White.
Police said White used a victim's debit card at a convenience store 30 minutes after assaulting her in her Lake Highlands apartment on Feb. 8. They linked him to another sexual assault in September at the DART Light Rail Walnut Hill Station. Surveillance video shows him walking away from the platform after the incident.
But White's mom, who contacted FOX4 concerned about his safety, said she would be surprised if the allegations are true.
"My son is not a rapist," Roberta White said. "He never been a rapist, that's not even him. I don't understand it."
White's sister said she spoke with him on Tuesday about the alleged incident at the DART stop and thinks he and the woman might have had a misunderstanding.
"I don't blame her for the misunderstanding," sister Jamelia White said. "They were all under the influence. I do not blame that woman."
White was taken to DPD headquarters after his surrender on Tuesday morning and eventually will be booked and charged at the Dallas County jail.
