Crew works on moving historic Waxahachie home

A moving crew started a large task Monday in Waxahachie -- taking apart a 100-plus year old home to be moved to Midlothian.

The first step for workers is to take it apart to be loaded on to trucks for the big move.

The large Victorian house was built in 1893 by William Holsford and has become known as "The Pink Lady" because of its color. It was recently purchased by a company called Leasing Impressions, which is moving it to Midlothian and restoring it its original period.

“We have pictures of that house in the historical books of Waxahachie to show us like a pattern book of how the put of back when it was new,” said Stephen Hidlebaugh, Leasing Impressions.

The moving process is not an easy one. It literally entails cutting the structure up into pieces that can be loaded on trucks and driven about 15 miles away.

“Our goal is to save as many houses as we can to preserve our history for future generations,” said Karen McMillan, McMillan Movers.

When it's all said and done, the home will be a part of a Midlothian development called Founders Row -- because the people who once owned the homes were founders of the community.

The restored historic houses will be used for restaurant and retail space and are set to open in 18-24 months.
