Carjacking suspect killed in fiery chase crash
DALLAS - An overnight police chase ended with a fiery fatal crash in far east Dallas.
Police said it started with a carjacking at Hill Park in Garland late Wednesday night.
Two armed men wearing hoodies walked up to a man and a woman and demanded money. The woman ran away, but the suspects got the keys to a Nissan Pathfinder from the man.
Officers later spotted the stolen SUV and tried to pull it over, but the driver took off.
The chase at times reached speeds of about 100 miles per hour. It ended when the driver lost control and crashed into a pole along Interstate 30 near Jim Miller Road.
The SUV burst into flames and the driver died in the fire.
Police are still looking for the second suspect involved in the carjacking.
