88 animals rescued, 22 found dead inside The Colony home

Authorities rescued 88 animals and retrieved 22 dead animals from a residential home in The Colony.

What we know:

The Colony police say they received a tip about dozens of animals living in poor conditions at a home in the 4800 block of Alta Oaks Lane.

On Tuesday, the city’s police department and animal services executed a search warrant, resulting in 88 animals being rescued and 22 other animals being found dead.

Of the living animals, 24 dogs, 45 cats, 12 reptiles and seven mice were rescued.

"This operation demonstrates the commitment to protecting all animals in our community," said Mark Cooper, Director of The Colony Animal Services. "The health and safety of each animal and reptile will be our top priority throughout this entire process."

It’s unclear what charges the homeowner faces. The Colony police said possible charges would depend on the outcome of the criminal investigation.

Since no charges have been filed at this time, the homeowner’s name has not been released.

It's unclear how long the animals had been staying in the home. Police did not elaborate on the type of conditions the animals were found in.

What's next:

The rescued animals are being evaluated by veterinarians and getting any necessary medical care. They are going to separate rescue organizations for temporary housing.
