Dallas weather: Arctic blast to send temps below freezing. Will we see snow?

This weekend will be pretty mild, but things will change as a cold front moves through Sunday, sending temperatures plunging below freezing.

Timeline: The high temperature for Sunday is 62 degrees, but it will happen at about 7 o'clock in the morning.

We have a chance of some quick showers and rumbles on Sunday and then the arctic air comes.

Winds are expected to gust at 30 miles per hour on Sunday and temperatures will tumble.

By midnight on Monday, we expect it to be below freezing.

By the time you wake up Monday morning, temperatures will be in the mid to low 20s with feels-like temperatures in the single digits and teens due to the wind!

Temperatures are expected to climb above freezing in the afternoons.

We expect to stay cold and dry through Wednesday, with temperatures below freezing in the mornings and warming up above freezing after that.

Thursday and Friday we could see some precipitation, meaning there's a shot at ice and snow.

The NTTA has already begun brining the roads for potential winter weather. TxDOT also has plans for prepping roads for snow and ice.

What We Don't Know: It is far from a sure thing that there will be any snow or ice in our area.

We have a chance of precipitation on Thursday to Friday, but we still have a lot of questions.

It is still too far out to know how cold it will be at the surface, how much dry air is going to be in place or how cold it will be aloft.

All of those play a role in what kind of precipitation we would see.

For now, we believe it will be liquid, but that could change, especially to the south.

Check back in with FOX 4 and the FOX 4 Weather app as we get closer to Thursday and Friday.
