Dallas weather: Countdown to Arctic air, snow in the forecast
DALLAS - We'll have light west winds and some passing mid-high clouds. The net result is a brief morning chill followed by temps in the low to a few mid 60s today. The Arctic air starts heading in on Saturday with gusty northern winds.
Thursday and Friday Forecast
What we know:
Thursday will be partly sunny with a high of 63. It will be a beautiful day for you to do what you need outside.
Friday will be warmer but cloudier and much windier. South winds gusting over 25 mph are possible as a Pacific system heads towards the area. It will be weakening as it races into Texas, so the coverage of showers will be fairly limited. Temps will easily be in the 60s with any sun (west) pushing highs close to 70.
What we don't know:
If the clouds are able to stay away, there could be a chance of making it to 70 degrees on Friday.

Saturday Forecast
What we know:
The Arctic air starts heading in on Saturday with gusty northern winds. The air looks dry, so the sun will balance the atmosphere getting colder and allow temps to stay in the 40s all day...getting close to 50 in spots. Chilly, but not horribly cold.
The colder air continues to filter in at night. We'll drop back into the 20s with wind chills in the teens.
There will be a quick upper level disturbance on Saturday night. There is a chance of flurries on Saturday, but it depends on the moisture in the air. There aren't any concerns about the precipitation at this time.
On Saturday night, you will want to start dripping the faucets, make sure the pipes are still covered, cover the plants and make sure your people and pets are warm. This will need to continue through at least Tuesday.
What we don't know:
While flurries are possible, we don't know where exactly people would be more likely to see the flakes, if they come at all.
Sunday Forecast
Sunday will certainly be cold. As cold as our last blast. Temps will get back above freezing for a few hours thanks to the returning sun, but not by a lot. Wind chills will remain in the 20s all day.
The coldest air settles in on Sunday night and probably lasts through Tuesday.
Monday Forecast: MLK Day/Inauguration Day
What we know:
The newest data doesn't show this being as brutal as previously thought, but it is still cold enough. The same data also doesn't indicate any significant storm system in the cold air for early next week. However, there's still enough lift in the air to warrant the chance for some light snow or flurries for Monday afternoon and night.
Either way, lows near 20 and highs near freezing will warrant dripping faucets and covering plants for a while.
What we don't know:
The forecast is still far enough out that we are not sure how long the arctic air will stick around.
Right now, amounts of snow are low, and any accumulations would be well under an inch if we even get any. Remember that it is still five days from this writing, so it's not in the "fine-tuning" range yet.
Tuesday Forecast
What we know:
While Tuesday looks quiet and cold...after that the indications are for a moderation in the chill. There will also be at least some risk for moisture, so the addition of some rain or a rain/mix would be warranted by mid-week.
What we don't know:
There may be some light fluffy snow for parts of the area on Tuesday, but too soon to know.
