Mavs fans excited for the start of a new season
The Dallas Mavericks take on the Houston Rockets tonight in the team's home opener. FOX 4's Shannon Murray gets a jump on the start of an exciting season live from the American Airlines Center.
DALLAS - After starting the season on the road, fans of the Dallas Mavericks can see them in person Tuesday at the American Airlines Center.
It’s the first home game under new head coach Jason Kidd.
He had his first win as Dallas’ coach Saturday in Toronto, following a blowout loss in the season opener in Atlanta.
"I'm excited for tomorrow – the home opener. We've been on the road. We've played two games. We had a successful road trip. One and one and now it's time to protect home. We want to be the team we think we can be. We've got to protect home," Kidd said.
"We didn't have fans the last home opener so I think the city is excited. We're excited. It's gonna be fun," said Mavericks forward Dorian Finney-Smith.
The Mavs will take on the Houston Rockets in Tuesday night’s home opener at the AAC.
The blue carpet will be rolled out for the Party on the Plaza before the game from 5-7 p.m. The game starts at 7:30 p.m.
COVID-19 Rules and Restrictions at the AAC
It will be the first time the Mavs allow the arena to be at full capacity since early 2020.
Fans must show proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test taken within 48 hours to get into the game. That rule is expected to be relaxed after the home opener.
Everyone 2 years old and up must wear a face mask whether they are vaccinated or not.

Home opener attendees to get commemorative Mavericks NFT
Mavs fans who got tickets for Tuesday’s home opener will get a gift from team owner Mark Cuban.
"Log into your Ticketmaster Account and there will be a Brad Davis, a Brad Davis NFT that we are doing as an initial test. This idea is that we will do one for every home game and when there is a special event, we will do something to commemorate that," Cuban said.
The Non-Fungible Token or NFT will only be available to fans who get their tickets scanned Tuesday at the AAC.
An NFT is expected to add value to the ticket because it cold be treated as a collectible item later on if something noteworthy happens at the game.

Dallas Mavs celebrate new season with Dallas ISD donation
The Dallas Mavericks are giving back and celebrating with students in the Dallas Independent School District.
To kick off the season, the Mavs are also giving back with a big donation to the Dallas Independent School District.
The team wants to help close the technology gap by giving 80,000 pairs of headphones to the district.
Mavericks’ stars Kristaps Porzingis, Josh Green and Reggie Bullock delivered the school supplies and fan gear to the students at Obadiah Knight Elementary School.
"I mean, it's the future. The kids are our future, you know, and the more we give them love and the more we educate them and show them what's good and what's not, the more advanced they're going to be and make this world a better place, Porzingis said. "I remember the impact that meeting somebody – a basketball player, or just high fiving a basketball player – meant to me. So, for me, I remind myself how important that is for the kids."
The team also donated spirit kits to all 250 schools that included custom school jerseys, basketballs and Mavs pennants.
