Dallas Mavericks optimistic before kicking off new season in Atlanta

Dallas Mavericks’ star Luka Doncic and his teammates met with fans Tuesday night at the American Airlines Center.

"I’ve very excited. You know, I think everybody can see in the preseason the way we practice, the way we have fun. Uh, you know, I think we’re playing great. We’re just going to transition that to the regular season and then into the playoffs and that’s it," Doncic said.

The Mavs open the regular season Thursday in Atlanta. Hopes are high for the team.

Dallas hasn’t won an NBA playoff series since then-guard Jason Kidd helped them win a title in 2011.

Now the team’s head coach, Kidd said the key is doing what’s need to get the best out of Doncic.

"You have to listen, be a great listener and that’s what I’ve done. And not just with Luka but with a lot of the players if not all of them, communicating but also listening to what they want. And now I’ve had success helping guys get to the finish line of achieving their goals so hopefully I can do that with all 15," Coach Kidd said.

The Mavs home opener is next Tuesday against Houston.
