ARLINGTON, Texas - The retractable roof is going in and work is progressing on the new Texas Rangers ballpark. It’s still on scheduled to open before the start of the 2020 season.
On Monday, representatives from Manhattan Construction Company gave an update on the Globe Life Field construction and released new renderings.
Around 1,300 construction workers are now dedicated to working on the project, which is on time and should be complete by next March.
The largest crane in the United States has also been brought in to put in the ballpark’s retractable roof. When it’s done, it will be about 65 feet taller than it currently is.
The plans also call for nine giant LED displays around the field. The largest will tower over right field at about 58 feet high and 150 feet wide.
Additional screens in left field, centerfield, behind home plate, along the suite levels, in the club area and in the interview room will give fans a combination of live video, instant replays, states, graphics and more.
Rangers announcer Chuck Morgan said he’s excited about what’s being built.
“I’m calling this the most comfortable seat in baseball,” he said. “I’ve been with the Rangers a long time and to watch fans come to games when it’s 100 plus, probably some of them don’t come back because it’s such a bad experience. So now with the air conditioning, you’re out of the elements. A roof, the seats are closer to the field and obviously we’re going to have brand new video boards that are gonna be a lot bigger and closer to the seats. This is really an exciting time to be a Rangers fan.”
Morgan said the new ballpark will also have an interactive element that allows fans to interact with him on game days.
The 1.7 million square foot ballpark with have a seating capacity of about 43,000.
