17 from Nate Morris helps Lancaster beat Edinburg Vela
SAN ANTONIO (AP) — Nate Morris had 17 points and eight rebounds as defending champion Lancaster beat Edinburg Vela 79-58 in a Class 5A semifinal in San Antonio on Thursday.
The 6-foot-10 forward had a towering height advantage against an Edinburg Vela (35-3) team without a player taller than 6-foot-4, and Morris was the focal point of the Lancaster (35-2) attack.
Deon Barrett added 14 points and Tahjon Starks scored 12 for Lancaster, which took control of the game in the second half and out-rebounded Edinburg Vela 35-19.
Making its first trip to the state tournament, Edinburg Vela kept the game close early with precise 3-point shooting and finished with 11 3-pointers on 25 attempts in the loss.
Ryan Garza scored a game-high 20 points and Hector Ruiz added 13 for Edinburg Vela.
