WWII veteran who asked for 100 cards gets thousands

An Army World War II veteran from North Texas who asked for 100 cards for her 100th birthday ended up receiving more than 7,000. And they're still coming.

An Army World War II veteran from North Texas celebrated her 100th birthday in a very big way this week.

Mrs. Ethelyn Bell's birthday was on Wednesday.

Last month, the Clyde W. Cosper Texas State Veterans Home shared a photo of her on social media asking for 100 cards for her birthday.

She got way more than the 100 cards she asked for.

In fact, several local veterans groups sent Mrs. Bell full stacks of 100 cards.

WWII veteran hoping for 100 cards for her 100th birthday

A World War II veteran from North Texas is hoping others will help her celebrate her 100th birthday.

The Veterans Land Board said Mrs. Bell has received 7,200 cards from across the country so far. And more are arriving each day.

She also had a party at the veterans home where she lives in Bonham and was presented with a Texas flag and a signed certificate from the Texas Land Commissioner.

Bell joined the military at the age of 21 in 1945.

She served as an Army nurse in Japan during World War II.

After the military, she worked as a school nurse in McKinney.

Bonham is in Fannin County, about located 70 miles northeast of Dallas.
