White Settlement house fire sets off propane explosions

Video captured an explosion at a home in White Settlement, west of Fort Worth.

A neighbor shot the video just before fire crews arrived at the scene on Allencrest Drive near Las Vegas Trail Thursday night as the house fire turned into a fireball.

The White Settlement Fire Department believes the fire set off the explosion of three propane tanks that were outside the house. Some neighbors said they were able to feel it as well as hear it.

Homeowner Derae Martinez was running from inside the home when the three tanks exploded in the backyard.

“That's where the explosion came from right in this vicinity why that part of the roof is missing and everything, the fridge,” Martinez said.

Fire officials believe an electrical short started a fire on the outside of a back wall of the home, which led to the bigger explosion.

"I'm lucky to get out when I did, the choice not to stay and put it out saved my life,” Martinez said.

Firefighters from Lockheed, River Oaks and Benbrook helped to quickly extinguish the flames.

No one was hurt, but the home was completely destroyed.
