Weather likely contributed to deadly crash in Rockwall

One person was killed in a collision in Rockwall Saturday night, and officials say weather was likely a contributing factor.

Rockwall Police responded to a major accident at approximately 6:30 p.m. on Interstate 30 near Horizon Road involving several 18 wheelers and passenger cars.

The accident initially began in the westbound lanes, but police say one of the 18 wheelers crossed through the concrete divider into eastbound lanes causing further collisions. The accident resulted in one fatality. Other drivers were transported to local hospitals for treatment.

Eastbound IH 30 was shut down at Dalrock Road for several hours while the westbound lanes were initially reduced to one lane but three lanes are now open. Lane closures will be anticipated for an extended period of time due to the size of the accident scene and the ongoing investigation.

The identities of the drivers involved in the accident are not being released at this time. The incident is being investigated by the Rockwall Police Department Traffic Division.
