Two Frisco students who are sisters were killed over the weekend when police say a hit-and-run driver crashed into their family's car.

Police caught the suspected driver not long after the accident in the Central Texas city of Kyle, about 20 miles south of Austin.

Both 16-year-old Peyton Weissman and her 18-year-old sister Hayden Weissman attended Frisco Wakeland High School, which is making arrangements to offer counseling on campus.

Students plan to hold a prayer service outside of the high school on Tuesday to remember the sisters. Meanwhile, investigators down south are working to figure out exactly how the fatal crash happened.

Kyle PD says 61-year-old Macario Hernandez crashed his truck into a Honda sedan the sisters were riding in. He allegedly ran away but was quickly caught and charged with accident causing death and injury.

Public records show Hernandez has two previous convictions for driving while intoxicated.

“Words can’t describe… we lost two little girls that night,” said Kyle Police Lt. Andre Marmolejo. “A family in shambles and an individual in custody whose life is never going to be the same.”

Kyle police say the sisters, who were both wearing their seat belts, died on scene. Three other people in the car were taken to the hospital. The Weissmans had family in San Antonio that they visited often.

Police investigators spent the day on Monday using laser technology to try and recreate the fatal crash at the intersection of Windy Hill Road and the northbound I-35 access road.

Kyle police are hoping security cameras at a nearby store may have captured at least part of the crash.

The names and conditions of the other three victims have not been released.
