DALLAS - Students at John B. Hood Middle School voted on what they want as their new school name. The sixth through eighth graders have recommended Piedmont Global Academy.
Last month the students participated in debates and eventually voted to remove the name of Confederate General John Hood removed from their campus.
Some students argued a name doesn't mean much. Others said their school shouldn't be named after a man who fought for slavery, especially since the student body is mostly made up of Latino and African American students.
The principal reportedly supports the students. The community, administration and Dallas school board will still have an opportunity to weigh in.
