2 fans hurt by flying debris at FC Dallas match

A child was one of two people hurt when a storm hit Toyota Stadium during an FC Dallas match Wednesday night. Fans were told to take shelter and the game was ultimately canceled.

Strong winds caused people at the FC Dallas game in Frisco to take cover Wednesday night.

Video taken Wednesday night around 8 p.m. by FOX 4 anchor Tisia Muzinga at the FC Dallas game shows powerful winds from the storms causing debris to fly across the field.

Strong winds delay FC Dallas game in Frisco

Strong winds caused people at the FC Dallas game in Frisco to take cover Wednesday night.

Announcers used the PA system to tell fans that due to the inclement weather, the match was being temporarily delayed and fans should seek shelter in the stadium concourse. Almost all seats were quickly emptied.

At some point, the decision was made to cancel the match altogether.

Firefighters reportedly treated two people at the stadium for non-life-threatening injuries. 

Police said an 8-year-old child was taken to the hospital but is expected to be okay.

Dallas Weather: Oct. 5 morning forecast

FOX 4 Weather Meteorologist Evan Andrews talks about Wednesday night's storms and the forecast through the weekend.

Colton Stephens told FOX 4 that the giant letter O from the Toyota Stadium lettering on the north concourse flew across the stadium and hit him in the shoulder.

Despite having a cut from the impact and lots of soreness, he's glad it didn't hurt anyone else.

"I was standing in front of three kids, so it's better it hit me than them," he said.

There's no word yet on when the FC Dallas match against Colorado will be rescheduled.

As for the storms, they mostly brought heavy rain, strong winds, and some hail to North Texas.

Some trees limbs and fences were knocked over in nearby Plano and ping pong ball-sized hail caused some damage in parts of Fort Worth.

It was a rough night for some people in North Texas. Wednesday's storms flooded streets and homes and knocked down tree limbs and fences. Hail fell in some areas and the lights went out for thousands of customers.
