Southwest pilot of Chicago-bound flight arrested for allegedly being intoxicated

A 52-year-old pilot for Southwest Airlines was arrested Wednesday morning at Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport for allegedly showing up to work intoxicated.

David Allsop, a New Hampshire resident, was taken into custody around 7 a.m. by the Chatham County Sheriff's Office and charged with driving under the influence.

The incident occurred as Allsop prepared to captain Southwest Flight 3772 to Chicago. The flight was delayed for nearly four hours, departing shortly before 11 a.m., as passengers were accommodated on alternative flights during the disruption.

Southwest Airlines has confirmed that Allsop has been "removed from duty" while the airline investigates the incident.

"We're aware of a situation involving an Employee on Flight 3772 this morning from Savannah," Southwest Airlines stated. "The employee has been removed from duty."

The company emphasized its commitment to safety, stating, "There's nothing more important to Southwest than the safety of our employees and customers."
