GLEN ROSE, Texas - A member of the sheriff’s office in Somervell County, southwest of Fort Worth, was killed in a crash while on duty.
Sergent Investigator Stephen Gibson was driving on State Highway 144 just outside of Glen Rose on Wednesday.
The Texas Department of Public Safety said it was raining at the time and the roads were wet.
A pickup truck headed in the opposite direction was going too fast, lost control, and struck Gibson’s vehicle head-on, DPS officials said.
The other driver, a 16-year-old male, was not seriously hurt.
Ex-Farmers Branch officer found not guilty of murder of man in stolen truck
A former Farmers Branch police officer has been found not guilty of murder for the on-duty shooting death of a suspect in 2019.
Officials said the teen remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.
It's not clear if he will face charges.
Gibson was a 25-year law enforcement veteran.
