DALLAS - As promised, snow fell in parts of North Texas with some areas getting a lot more than others.
More than 6 inches of snow fell in Stephenville in Erath County. It’s the most in years. But people in Denton and Collin Counties had to settle for just a dusting.
For the families FOX 4 talked to, the winter weather was a great way to end the weekend. Children bundled up and got to work building a snowman.
"I was waiting for it," 7-year-old Grayson Hughes said.
Grayson and his 5-year-old brother, Mack, were out enjoying the several of inches of snow that fell outside their Burleson home on Sunday.
And the rare times is does snow here in North Texas, it makes everyone feel like a kid.
"It’s out first time building a snowman. Yeah, especially as a family. Yeah, she definitely loved it," James Howell and Aaliyah Ogden said.
Howell and Ogden said it was the first time their daughter has felt snow. The transplants didn’t think they’d get this opportunity.
"We’re from Florida, where there’s no snow. So coming to Texas, it’s exciting," they said.
Those living in South Dallas took the opportunity to go outside to enjoy the snow too. About an inch accumulated there but it didn’t stick around for long.
Woody Jones called it just the kind of escape people have been needing.
"Most kids in North Texas don’t get the opportunity to play in the snow, so it’s a welcome opportunity," he said. "No school, no work, no really anything. Since COVID it’s really not a lot of anything going on so it actually worked out really well."
Hannah Carter and her family drove down from Uptown just to enjoy the snow in the South Dallas, Duncanville and Cedar Hill area.
"We saw some pictures and videos and saw it was snowing, and actually sticking more than in Uptown, where we live, so we just decided to drive south," she said.
Lacresha Walker called it a perfect post-Christmas snow day.
"I am thankful she got to see it because I really didn’t think it was happening. They call me negative Nancy because I did not think they were going to be able to build a snowman," she said.
Even Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic tweeted out that he was seeing some snow in Dallas.

Traffic slowly crawled in certain areas of the Metroplex, mostly in the southwest portions.
Texas Department of Transportation crews have spent the past few days treating North Texas roads to make them safer in case of ice but there weren’t any major traffic issues reported on the roads.
Ground temperatures stayed above freezing and there weren’t as many people out and about with it being a Sunday.
But just as quickly as it came, the winter weather is already gone.
A few school districts southwest of the Metroplex have canceled class or delayed the start of the day Monday due to Sunday's snowfall.
