Hundreds of rabbits were rescued from a home in Kaufman County.

The SPCA of Texas found 452 rabbits living in unbearable conditions. Some of them reportedly had missing ears, eyes and hair. Others were badly injured.

“In some places, more than four crates were stacked up on top of one another. The crates were filled with feces, hair, dirt and debris and the rabbits had little access to appropriate food or water. Many crates contained multiple rabbits, including numerous litters of juvenile rabbits,” the SPCA of Texas said on Facebook.

Investigators talked with the owners Monday about improving conditions. They seized the animals Wednesday when they saw no changes being made.

The rabbits were taken to the SPCA of Texas’ Russell E. Dealey Animal Rescue Center, where they’ll be cared for and evaluated by a medical team.

The rescuers hope some will recover and can be placed up for adoption.
