What we know:
DALLAS - A Dallas neurologist has been charged with aggravated sexual assault of a child and has temporarily lost his Texas medical license while investigators gather more information.
Dr. Samir Shah, 48, was arrested on Oct. 28 and booked into the Tarrant County Jail. His bond was set at $150,000, and public records show he has since been released.
The Texas Medical Board determined that Shah’s continued practice poses a threat to public welfare. The suspension of his medical license took effect immediately on Dec. 5.
The investigation is ongoing.
Who is Dr. Samir Shah?
According to public records obtained by FOX 4, Shah received his medical license in 2008 and has been actively practicing in Texas for 15 years.
He has worked at three or more medical centers in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
His attorneys shared the following statement with FOX 4:
"The simplest way to gain an advantage in an ugly custody battle is to make a false claim of sexual abuse. It is the weapon of mass destruction in family courts and, unfortunately, is easily wielded every day across the country. There is no credible evidence to suggest anything other than the fact that Dr. Samir Shah is a devoted father who loves his daughters and has always prioritized their well-being. Dr Shah has further taken and passed a rigorous polygraph by the best polygrapher in this part of the country. In the end, I am confident that the facts will show that the only victim in this situation is Dr. Shah."
What we don't know:
The medical board did not release any details about the sexual assault case, including whether the alleged incident occurred at home or at work.
It is unclear whether Shah’s suspension will remain temporary or if the board will permanently revoke his license.
