HOGANSVILLE, Ga. - A Hogansville man is now in custody after police say he stole money from a dead man.
Police tell FOX 5, a utility worker tipped off police after noticing a customer who normally always paid their bill was on the list of getting their service disconnected for non-payment.
After conducting a welfare check, Hogansville Police found a deceased man. The Troup County Coroner determined the man died about three weeks earlier and had died of natural causes.
A separate anonymous tip police received said that someone might have gone into the residence after the man's death and stolen cash. After interviewing several people, police were able to arrest, Christopher Harris, 29, of Hogansville.
Harris was taken to the Troup County jail and faces charges of felony theft and felony concealment of a death.
According to police some of the stolen cash was recovered, but the incident is still under investigation.
