Police: Fiancé hired hitman to kill Rowlett mother
Police have charged three people with murder in the death of a Rowlett woman killed last November. One of the suspects is the woman’s fiancé.
Ioannis Markis was arrested Thursday afternoon. Investigators believe he hired a hitman to kill his fiancé, 37-year-old Laura Grillo.
The mother of three was found shot in the head at her house on Americas Cup near Yacht Club Drive on Nov. 13, just days before her wedding.
Rowlett police did not find any signs of forced entry in the home. They now believe Markis hired Jesus Trevino to kill Grillo. Trevino worked for the family and was set to be the best man in the couple’s upcoming wedding.
A third man, James Villeda, is accused of being the getaway driver.
Police called the case a complicated one. They will not talk about a motive.
“We’ve been investigating this case over six month, talked to witnesses, going over reams and reams of data to get to the point that we’ve got this week,” said Lt. David Nabors with the Rowlett Police Department.
Markis’ arrest comes after the case was presented to a Dallas County grand jury.
Trevino and Villeda were already in custody for failing to register as sex offenders. Trevino is also charged with Grillo’s murder and Villeda will be charged in the next few days.
All three men are being held in the Dallas County Jail.
