Plano mayor welcomes group of promising young summer interns
PLANO, Texas - The city of Plano kicked off its summer internship program for young people who want to be productive during their break from school.
Mayor John Muns met high school juniors and seniors on Thursday.
The group is set to begin work on Monday.
The mayor said summer internships benefit the teens and the companies that will eventually employ them.
"I always get great feedback from the corporate community telling me how great these kids are. And selfishly for the city of Plano, we hope that these kids come back after college and make their home in Plano," Mayor Muns said.
"When I go into work I’ll definitely make sure to network and really make relationships with people that are going to help me in the long term," said Eisha Alam, a Plano East High School student.
During the eight-week program, students will earn at least $12 an hour in fields like banking and engineering.
