Irving -
More than 100 people gathered outside the Islamic Center of Irving on Saturday, holding what they called a "Peace Rally" in support for local Muslims. Last Saturday a small group of anti-Islamic protestors, calling themselves BAIR (Bureau on American Islamic Relations) gathered outside the same mosque while carrying long guns. Saturday's demonstrators expressed disgust for what happened there last weekend, asserting that Irving has gained a national and undeserved reputation for hate.
"I am tired of being represented by hate groups and I just want to let people know not all of irving is like that," said Jeremy Michell.
"I think I see more non-Muslims here then Muslims," said Maleeha Aziz.
"People are tired of seeing hate and ugliness," said organizer Tonya Cadenhead.
Another rally goer, Chuck Smith said he was outraged to see people coming to the mosque being shadowed on the sidewalk by armed demonstrators. "It just made me so angry to see Americans who call themselves brave patriots threatening women and children."
