3 women arrested in $20k organized retail theft scheme at a Plano Burlington
PLANO, Texas - Plano police arrested three women and recovered about $20,000 in stolen merchandise after uncovering an organized retail theft scheme at a Burlington store.
What we know:
Plano police were contacted by Burlington’s regional organized crime manager, who reported that a group was allegedly removing theft sensors at the store around 12:30 p.m. on Jan. 31.
The Burlington employee told police he recognized the women from previous thefts at other store locations.
All three suspects walked out of the store with the stolen items. Plano police then detained them at the scene.
Stolen Merchandise
Investigators found about $20,000 worth of stolen merchandise inside the suspects’ car. The items were linked to multiple retailers, including Burlington, Marshalls, T.J. Maxx, Ross, Academy Sports + Outdoors, and Target.
Officers returned the recovered merchandise to the stores.
Arrests and Charges
The suspects were identified as Dafeny Yanez, 34; Crystal Rivera, 34; and Gissela Fernandez Yanez, 42.
All three were arrested on charges of theft of property, possession of instruments used for retail theft, engaging in organized criminal activity, and outstanding warrants.
What we don't know:
Authorities have not said whether additional individuals are involved in the organized retail theft ring.
