An off-duty Dallas police officer fired at suspected shoplifters while working security at Northpark Center on Sunday.
The off-duty officer and a mall security guard were after three female suspects about 1 p.m. Sunday who reportedly stole clothing and furs.
Dallas police said the mall security officer tried to block the women from driving out of the Dillard's parking garage by standing in front of the vehicle and jumped on the hood to avoid being run over. That's when the officer fired his gun.
The three suspects escaped and no one was hurt in the incident. Police are now investigating and working to obtain surveillance film to potentially ID the suspects. The driver could face an aggravated assault charge in addition to the theft charges for all three.
Police said the officer was put on routine leave after the Sunday afternoon incident.
