New gym opens for Grand Prairie Police Department boxing program
GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas - Grand Prairie police opened a new gym Wednesday to reach more young people.
Officers are teaching boxing to youngsters and now have a place to call their own. The city invested in the permanent location.
“Through mentorship, accountability, discipline. I cannot brag enough on my kids. They're just awesome, and they're doing such a great job in school. Really shown us how they appreciate this opportunity, and I've grown to love them,” said Chief Steve Dye, Grand Prairie Police Department.
Dallas Cowboys players, including quarterback Dak Prescott and linebacker Sean Lee, surprised the kids at the event Wednesday night.
Police say they train about 100 kids a day. They hope this will allow them to reach more youths in the city.
