DALLAS - Jury selection is underway in the murder trial of a man accused in the death of former NBA player and Dallas Carter High superstar Andre Emmett, who was killed in September 2019 near his Dallas home.
Larry Jenkins, 23, is facing capital murder charges in Emmett's death. He is one of three charged with his murder. The other two defendants will go on trial later this year.
Emmett was shot and killed when he was robbed outside his home in Old East Dallas in 2019. The crime was captured by the Ring camera system on his front door.
Three people have been charged with capital murder in the violence that took place as Emmett sat in his driveway eating food from Whataburger.

The first to stand trial will be Jenkins, the accused shooter.
Patrick Wilson is the former Ellis County district attorney and not connected to this trial.
"The actual crime on video that's as compelling as it gets in this day and age, and that's going to be very difficult to overcome," he said. "Now you can't identify anyone in that video, but I presume the state and the police have very strong evidence linking Mr. Jenkins to be the individual, which is actually firing the gun which is visible in the video as well. And so that's going to be very compelling evidence for any jury."

Emmett made it to the big leagues, playing in the NBA after a college career at Texas Tech. The father of two also played in the BIG3 League.

Regina Oliver is Emmett's mother.
"I'm still overwhelmed and shocked. It's a lot," she said. "Because I already feel the pain and the heartbreak. And of course I know I'm not the only one, but I am the most hurt behind all of this as his mother."
If Jenkins is convicted in this capital murder trial, it would mean an automatic life sentence.
Emmett was robbed and murdered on Sept. 23, 2019. The trial is coming almost three years later to the day.
"Justice will be served on that day or before," Oliver said.
