McKINNEY, Texas - A K-9 was killed, and an armed suspect is dead after a police standoff at a McKinney motel.
Red Roof Inn Shooting
What we know:
McKinney police say they responded to a shooting Thursday just before 3 p.m. at the Red Roof Inn off North Central Expressway.
When they arrived, they found a 52-year-old woman who had been shot. She was taken to the hospital and is said to be stable.
Police say the shooting suspect retreated to his hotel room and barricaded himself. A SWAT team eventually came in.

During negotiations, police say the man told them he was going to shoot everyone.
When police sent in a K-9, they say the suspect pulled out a gun and began shooting.
Officers returned fire, killing him. He was taken to the hospital, where he later died.
Police say K-9 Azi was fatally shot by the suspect during the shootout.
Friday afternoon, police identified the suspect as 43-year-old Freddie Ware.
Police K-9 Procession
McKinney officers hold procession at vet clinic
Officers seemed to hold a procession for a K-9 officer outside a veterinarian's office in McKinney. Police have not released any updates.
Video from SKY 4 shows a procession for the K-9.
Officers lined up outside an Urgent Vent Clinic a few miles away from the crime scene.
The officers saluted as a flag-draped gurney carrying K-9 Azi was taken from the back of a police car into the vet clinic.
What we don't know:
Police did not give a condition of the woman who was shot, only saying she was stable.
The victim has not been identified. It’s unclear how she and Ware knew each other.
The motive for the shooting remains unclear.
What's next:
McKinney police say the Texas Rangers are taking over the investigation.
There is no ongoing threat.
