Lightning may have sparked 2 Ft. Worth fires
FORT WORTH, Texas - Two fires in Fort Worth may have been started by lightning.
A woman died in one of those fires.
The first fire started around 10 a.m. Friday as heavy thunderstorms were moving through the area near Westfork Drive and Deavers Lane.
Investigators believe the elderly woman who lived in the home was overcome by smoke. She was found dead in her bedroom.
“Crews on scene did report that shortly after they arrived and began the attack and significant rain storm did move through. So it didn’t hamper the operations but it at this point it is unclear if that had any relation to the fire,” said Kyle Faulkner with the Fort Worth Fire Department.
One other person lives in the home, but was not there at the time.
The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
No one was home when a fire started at another house about two miles away.
Firefighters believe lightning started that fire.
Neighbors say the lightning and thunder hit and they immediately saw smoke coming from the roof of a home in the 900 block of Hillcrest Street.
No one was home at the time, but neighbors say there was a dog inside.
Firefighters say they got it out and the dog was OK.
