A large pothole is causing traffic delays on a busy North Texas freeway.

The pothole is on an elevated portion of westbound Interstate 635 at Jupiter Road near the Dallas and Garland border.

The Texas Department of Transportation said the two right lanes of the freeway are closed between State Highway 78 and Plano Road for emergency repairs.

The hole is several feet wide and quite substantial. Images from SKY 4 allow you to see all the way through the pavement to the road below the bridge.

TxDOT officials said the closure and repair work is expected to last through the afternoon rush hour.

Drivers were encouraged to take alternate routes.
