Lake Lewisville dam repairs now complete
DENTON, Texas - People downstream will be happy to hear that repairs to the dam at Lake Lewisville are complete.
The Army Corps of Engineers began working on the dam last year after heavy rain damaged it. Repairs began in January, but were temporarily stopped by spring rains.
Congressman Michael Burgess, who represents parts of Denton and Tarrant counties, praised the quick work.
“The wrong thing to do would have been to dismiss it and say it doesn’t require our attention. It did require our attention and the corps agreed. And then the work got done,” he said. “Like many things, it takes years to get something done in Congress. This took 11 months, so that was impressive.”
Last year rain caused more than a dozen lakes to rise to record high levels. Flooding caused an estimated $7 billion in damage across North Texas.
The repair project cost $8 million.
