Klyde Warren Park expanding to include visitor's center
DALLAS - The beloved Klyde Warren Park in Downtown Dallas is going to be getting bigger.
Expansion plans call for the addition of 1.2 acres of space over Woodall Rogers Freeway, just west of St. Paul Street. They complete Klyde Warren Park Chairman Jody Grant’s original vision for the park.
“It is wonderful. This is an exciting day, really a blue ribbon day for Dallas. We’re going to make things happen here and we’re going to create amenities for the Dallas public and our visitors that they’re really going to enjoy. So we’re thrilled about this,” Grant said.
The expansion is also a partnership with Visit Dallas. Plans call for a two-story building that will serve as sort of a visitor’s center called Experience Dallas.
“It will have all of the high-tech, high-touch communication devices and you will be able to find out what happened yesterday, what’s going to happen tomorrow and what’s happening in the future,” Grant said.
Years ago, he looked down on the highway from a Dallas high-rise and wished something else were in the space.
“It’s been amazing. This has been a wonderful journey and it’s just incredible to think there are 200,000 cars passing beneath our feet every day. And we have a serene quiet place where people can enjoy life and have fun and it’s all free,” he said.
Construction on the expansion is set to begin next year. It could be completed as early as 2022.
