Hurricane Francine | Storm continued to move inland towards Tennessee

Francine downgraded to a post-tropical cyclone on Thursday after causing slamming into Louisiana as a category 2 hurricane with 100 mph winds.

The storm made landfall in the Parish of Terrebonne, near Morgan City and caused residents to be trapped inside their homes because of flooding and high-water.

Hurricane Francine made landfall around 5 p.m. central time on Wednesday, but it is now a tropical storm as of a 10 p.m. Wednesday update.

Louisiana expects to see ten inches of rain, damaging hurricane-force winds and life-threatening storm surge of up to 10 feet along the coast.

All New Orleans Public Schools will be closed on Wednesday and Thursday.

In Baton Rouge, Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome said she has been in constant contact with the National Weather Service, along with local and state officials, as preparations are made for Francine's landfall.

"This storm is expected to bring threats of heavy rain, gusty to damaging winds and possibly a few tornadoes," she said. "I want to encourage everyone to make preparations now."

FEMA says President Joe Biden approved an emergency declaration for Louisiana, making federal disaster assistance available to the state to supplement response efforts.

Increasing wind, flooding rain and tornadoes are possible.
