DALLAS - Operations returned to normal a few hours after a fire alarm forced an evacuation at Dallas Love Field Friday morning.
The alarm sounded around 4:30 a.m., sending passengers and staff outside the terminal as firefighters investigated.
Former FOX 4 producer Katy Smith shared video of firefighters letting everyone back in around 30 minutes later. They checked everything out and didn’t find anything serious.
The airport later said smoke generated by an over-heated component in an AC unit triggered the alarm.
After the delay, everyone had to wait in hours-long lines to get through security again. That delay made a number of people miss their flights.
"I was very frustrated, I work 10 hours a day and I've been up since 2 o'clock this morning to make sure I get to the airport on time,” said traveler Sissy Pfaff.
Meanwhile, traffic is expected to pick up on the roads and at the airports as people head out of town for the holidays. Holiday travel is reportedly up about 25 percent overall and DFW Airport estimates airline travel is up 4 percent compared to last year.
Check in and security lines were long Friday morning at DFW Airport, but were all moving smoothly.
Those flying out of town Friday will need a lot of patience. Experts recommend they get to the airport at least two hours before a flight is set to leave during peak times or call the airline for a recommendation.
Also, the Department of Homeland Security is recommending that Americans always be alert of their surroundings while traveling during the holiday season.
