Haltom City kidnapping suspect 'was almost proud of what he did,' police say

Haltom City police say a man accused of kidnapping a woman from her apartment on Christmas Eve needed money and "seemed almost proud of what he did."

What We Know: A 22-year-old woman was leaving Acacia Apartments in Haltom City on her way to work on Christmas Eve.

Police say she was approached by an armed man in a mask who forced her in the backseat of her car and made her take money out of an ATM.

The suspect then drove her car to Grapevine and left the victim near the Camden Apartments on Grapevine Mills Parkway while he drove off in her car.

The victim was able to contact police and give officers a description of her car and the armed assailant.

That information was shared with a national database by Haltom City police.

Less than 24 hours later, police in Oklahoma City arrested 35-year-old Eduardo Javier Ordonez Godoy.

Godoy is originally from Honduras. Police say he claimed to be affiliated with a gang there.

Arrest affidavits state Godoy drove around with the victim for an hour and threatened to "sell her organs" or "prostitute her."

She told police the comments made her fear for her life.

The affidavits state Godoy used the victim's shoelace to tie her hands around a tree.

He confessed to the crimes, saying he just needed money, but detectives say it was his behavior during the interview that stuck out to them.

What They're Saying: "He smirked a lot, he giggled, and, you know, was almost proud of what he did," Haltom City Police Sgt. Rick Alexander said.

Police said Godoy has committed similar crimes in the past and has even been arrested and deported back to Honduras.

"He claims he's just a thief. He wants money," Alexander said. "But, you know, in this case, clearly he went beyond that and brought a firearm into it."

What's Next: Godoy is currently being held in jail in Oklahoma City facing multiple felonies and misdemeanors in Oklahoma. He's also facing aggravated kidnapping and aggravated robbery charges in Haltom City.

Godoy has an ICE detainer because of his immigration status.
