Family's 80-candle birthday cake for grandma sparks blazing inferno

A family in Highland, Illinois, unintentionally set off a towering blaze with 80 candles on a grandmother's birthday cake, struggling to extinguish it, as shown in footage posted on TikTok.

HIGHLAND, Ill. - An Illinois family did everything they could to put out the fire on top of a birthday cake after the 80 lit candles refused to go out.

The cake was for the grandmother's 80th birthday. The 80 candles accidentally created a towering blaze.

Madison Noeltner captured the footage that showed multiple families repeatedly trying to blow the candles out, after the frightened grandmother tried first.

At one point, they wanted to pour a liquid on top of the cake, but then decided against it.

Finally, they decided to put a plate on top of the candle ot extinguish the flames.

Noeltner told Storyful that as her grandmother is deaf and "could not hear us screaming around her," but that she "reacted hilariously."
